 Pakistan Digital City

After it was revealed earlier this year that Pakistan’s first digital city would complete its planning phase by the end of October this year, many Chinese tech firms have shown an eager interest in investing in the initiative. The project is expected to be established in Haripur, KP.

The initiative by the KP government seeks to create thousands of new job in the digital sector.

Many large tech companies from China, such as Oppo and Haier have shown keen interest in the extensive project. Pakistan’s first-ever Digital City has had an area of 43,000 square meters allocated to it said Danish, the spokesperson for the KP IT board.

Spokesperson also revealed that the area has already been fenced and construction work has already begun. He said that the location was perfect as it was near communication producers such as the Telephone Industries of Pakistan(TIP), the National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC), as well as the still under planning Pak-Austria Fachhochschule Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology.

He further had explained also that the National Engineering Services of Pakistan (Nespak) was responsible for planning the project, while the NRTC will partner in the implementation of the said project.

Pakistan Digital City is expected to attract and locally integrate various information and communication technology (ICT) companies. The expectation is creating clusters of companies from the digital sector and hence permeate the practices into the labor force. The project is expected to create 50,000 direct and indirect jobs.
